Wellbeing @ Dropmore

Mental and emotional health and wellbeing, resilience and a sense of belonging are vital to the development of children. At Dropmore Infant School, we pride ourselves on supporting our pupils, staff and families in these areas as we believe that children cannot learn effectively if their own, or the mental wellbeing of the adults around them is compromised. We reflect on and enhance our provision through training and working with other organisations who specialise in the mental and emotional wellbeing of children and adults.

Aims:
Our small, caring, inclusive school, aims to provide a feeling of welcome, warmth and happiness with a community of nurturing, caring staff.

At Dropmore we aim to:

  • help our children identify and understand their feelings and emotions
  • help our children feel comfortable when talking about their worries and concerns
  • encourage our children to develop resilience and problem-solving skills
  • help our children show empathy and kindness to others
  • promote self-esteem and self confidence
  • help children develop positive relationships
  • make our children feel valued and safe
  • promote positive mental health and wellbeing
  • support staff by promoting a culture of trust where they feel valued, can be open about their health and wellbeing and know how to access support if they need it
  • engage positively with parents, offering support and guidance when they have concerns about their child’s wellbeing

Mrs Nicky Waugh, our Wellbeing Lead, is a qualified children’s yoga and mindfulness teacher and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or “Tapping”), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Processing) Practitioner and family wellbeing coach.  Tools from these areas of wellbeing support are woven throughout our day to day school life and across our curriculum through a wide range of activities including:

  • Yoga club
