Dough Disco

There are many fun activities you can do with your child to develop their fine motor skills, which will improve their handwriting.

In Reception our children have a weekly Dough Disco session. They love 'playing' with play dough, for example: rolling, pinching (using different fingers), chopping, pulling apart and squeezing to catchy music.

Have a go at this at home!
Here is a tried and tested play dough recipe:

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup of plain flour
  • 0.5 cup of salt
  • 2 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Food colouring of your choice.
 INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add all ingredients to a large pan and cook on a medium heat stirring continuously until forms a dough. (Approx 10 mins)
  2. Remove from heat, allow to cool to touch.
  3. Knead until smooth.
  4. Allow to cool completely (knead occasionally to prevent drying out)  before storing in air tight plastic bag or container.
  5. Kept in air tight container in a cool place (not the fridge) should last a few months.
