Science Challenge 2023

16th March 2023
This year, British Science Week took place from 10-19 March. The theme for British Science week this year is ‘Connections’. Connections links with multiple areas across science, technology, engineering and maths.

To coincide with British Science week, the 22nd annual Dropmore Science Challenge took place in the school hall on Thursday 16th March.

In the run up to the event, parents are invited and encouraged to enjoy science activities at home with their children, by taking part in one or more of our science challenges.

All children take part in the Paper Aeroplane challenge and they had lots of fun testing out their planes in the school hall. There were also two optional challenges to take part in:
  • Build a Boat using recycled or eco-friendly materials that can float and support up to 25 pennies for at least 10 seconds —without leaking, sinking, or tipping over.
  • Make a Wheeled Vehicle using recycled or eco-friendly materials, which will travel independently down and angled slope. Whose vehicle will travel the furthest?
Well done to everyone who took part. It was a lovely morning and wonderful to see so many parents there.

The winners of the Paper Aeroplane Competition are:
Reception: 1st Bea, 2nd Sebby, 3rd Eesa
Year 1: 1st James, 2nd Niall and Nishan, 3rd Sienna
Year 2: 1st Nihal and James, Sohani, Mia and Aria

The wheeled Vehicles that travelled the furthest were:
Fran - 4.90m, Paloma - 3.45m, James C and Sienna - 3.0m

All children that took part in the Build a Boat competition got full marks!
