Silver Coin Week

1st April 2022
Monday 28th March was the start of our silver coin week. Children were asked to bring in silver coins for one week only.  Each classroom had a container for the children to donate their silver coins (5p, 10p, 20p and 50p). The classes were competing against each other for 4 prizes (extra playtime), all linked to Maths activities:
  • Length – the class with the longest line of coins
  • Weight – the class with the heaviest set of coins
  • Quantity – the class with the highest number of coins
  • Value – the class with the most money

Throughout the week, the children were involved in a wide range of Maths activities (counting, sorting, grouping, estimating, measuring, weighing and calculating) using the coins collected in their class. On Friday morning the winners of the 4 prizes were announced. Reception and Year 1 shared their winnings with Year 2 and all 3 classes had an extra playtime.
